A neighbour is a person who lives, or is located, near or adjacent another.
A neighbour can be a friend, a helper, a caregiver.
A neighbour can also be him/her who is not me, the Other, the different one, the migrant, the enemy, the suspect.
Songs of my Neighbours, at its core, is a project that envisages to encourage intercultural sensitivity and dialogue, empathetic listening and understanding of our Neighbours. It aims to work on the complex issues of cohabitation and migration in multicultural societies, as well as promote cooperation and ethnic and religious tolerance between communities that share conflict.
To achieve this end, project participants listen to and sing the songs of their Other. The project is comprised of numerous activities (e.g., theatrical performances, concerts, conferences, artistic research, video screenings, a documentary production, residencies, scholarships, workshops, a human library, publications, etc.).
Phase 1: Spring 2014. Research.
Phase 2: Spring-Summer 2014. Concerts, Performances, Workshops, Screenings.
Phase 3: Summer 2014. 10-day Residency in Brzezinka for performers, musicians, directors, scholarship-recipients.
Phase 4: Autumn-Winter 2014. An original theatre performance in each of Cyprus, Italy, Poland.
Final Phase: Spring-Summer 2015. Closing symposium, project’s book presentations, project’s documentary screenings.
